With her Confirmation of Candidature coming up, Masters of Philosophy student, Jolin Qu, treated our meeting this week with a preview of her presentation. Her research is titled Using Machine Learning to Support Better and Intelligent Visualization for Genomic Data.
“Visualisation is the process of using diagrams to show data.”
Qu’s goal is to utilize machine learning algorithms to present Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia genomic data intelligently. She continued that there are many big genomic collections, and that the number is doubling every 12 months.
“Visualisation is the process of using diagrams to show data,” she explained. “Different visualisations show different amount of data.”
She cited examples at how machines and artificial intelligence are able to be humans in popular games. With this in mind, she hopes to create a tool that doctors would be able to utilize to predict disease.
